Juanita Matthews

Juanita Matthews went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, April 3, 2023 at her home. Funeral services for Ms. Juanita Matthews, age 90, of Livingston, will be held Friday, April 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Church in Rickman.

Her family will receive friends Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Oak Hill Church and again Friday from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Eckel Cemetery. Pastor Todd Sutton and Jerry Wilkinson will officiate.

She was born November 22, 1932 in Pickett County, TN to the late Louis and Shirley Garrett Pendergrass.

Juanita was a member of Oak Hill Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and most of all cooking for everyone she knew. There were always desserts and a home cooked meal anytime anyone was at her home.

She especially enjoyed playing cards with her friends, family and “the girls”. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Matthews, of 61 years; sisters, Gena Thompson and Fonza Smith; brothers, Coy, Pratt, Bud, Clifford, and Johnny Pendergrass; half-sister, Betty Hash; and half-brother, David Pendergrass.

She is survived by her son, David (Brooke) Matthews of Livingston; daughters, Gail (Jerry) Wilkinson of Livingston and Renita Sommers (Greg Tubbs) of Cookeville; half-brother, Nick Pendergrass of Byrdstown, TN; half-sister, Nelda Clark of Indianapolis, IN; Grandchildren, Matt (Karen) Wilkinson, Lisa (David) Ledbetter, Ashley (T.J.) Hillabrand, Dustin (Hunter) Matthews, Macey Sommers, Zach Sommers, and Heath

Matthews. Great Grandchildren Hayden, Halle, and Dawson Ledbetter, Reese and Jesse Wilkinson, Kasyn and Bexley Hillabrand, Everly Matthews, and Raven Carpenter.

Serving as pallbearers are Matt Wilkinson, Dustin Matthews, Zach Sommers, David Ledbetter, Jackie Thompson, Heath Matthews, and Sam Pendergrass.
