JT Butler, age 76 of Baxter, TN passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023 in Greeneville, TN. JT, originally of Oneida, TN, was the son of Mable Isabelle West Butler and Hilliard Jennings Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Vivian June Smith and brother-in-law Dick Smith.
He was born March 30, 1947.
JT is survived by his twelve children: Jay Thomas Butler and his wife, Nina, Dee Bean and her husband Todd Bean, Joey Butler and his wife Niki, Ashlynn and her husband Trey Bundrant, Austin and his wife Julianne, Eli and his wife Hailey, Jake, Luke, Zack, Maggie, Gracie, and Bella; his nephew Richard Smith. JT is also survived by his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren Emalee and Stefan Arroyo, Ethan and Samantha Butler, Erin Butler, Isaiah Bean, Samuel Bean, Harper Grace Butler, Jackson Butler, Emerson Kate Bundrant, and Elowyn Arroyo. He also leaves behind many other family and friends.
JT was a proud veteran serving in the United States Air Force. Following his service he attended the University of Tennessee where he achieved a degree in Forestry that he was always proud of.
Upon graduation, he began his career in the State Parks Service where he would go on to become Park Manager of Rock Island State Park, a post he held proudly until his retirement.
JT was a beloved father and pappy. He was an avid sports fan, and loved watching the Tennessee Vols and all things Upperman Bees. You could often find JT on the sidelines of Upperman football games or in the basketball gym watching his girls. More than anything, JT loved getting to spend time with his kids and grandkids.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1 PM November 29 at Stevens Street Baptist Church, 327 West Stevens St., Cookeville, TN with visitation Tuesday From 4 to 8 PM and after 11 AM Wednesday until service time at the church. Bro. Rick Burnett will officiate with Todd Bean delivering the Eulogy. Interment with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Butler Family has asked the community to donate to the Upperman High School Football, basketball, softball teams or chorus. Checks can be made out to the individual program and mailed to Upperman High School at 6950 Nashville Highway, Baxter, TN 38544 with ATTN to Ross Fanning.
Active Pallbearers will be Joey, Austin, Eli, Jake, Luke, Zack and Jay Thomas Butler.
