Joyce Jordan Griggs

Joyce Jordan Griggs, age 85, passed away peacefully May 31, 2024 in her Cookeville, TN home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 25, 1939, she is preceded in death by her mother and father Sallye Yancey Owlsey and Howard Owsley, brothers Howard Jean and Joe Owsley, son Mark Jordan, and previous husband of 50 years, Bill Jordan.

Joyce Jordan was a passionate fisherman and ensured that the bluegill population of Putnam County was kept well in check. She loved and was well loved by her church family and took great pride in preparing as many "Operation Christmas Child" boxes as humanly possible. Joyce had a generous and determined spirit unburdened by physical limitations: she taught three grandchildren to swim in the Soldner's pool while never learning to swim herself. She loved homemade ice cream, a good tomato, and her annual trip to the Gulf with her family.

She is survived in death by her husband Edwin Griggs, her daughter Lori Marlow and husband Dean, grandchildren Jeremy Jordan, Blake Marlow, Caleb Marlow Sr., Gaven Marlow, Hannah Marlow, and great grandchildren Nash Jordan, Caleb Marlow Jr., Maverick Marlow, and Delilah Marlow.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church Cookeville. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time. Interment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Operation Christmas Child in care of the First Baptist Church, 18 S Walnut Ave, Cookeville, TN 38501.
