Mrs. Joyce Hofmeister, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, left us peacefully on May 25, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee. Joyce was born on June 30, 1941, in Overton County, Tennessee, a place she held dear throughout her life.
Joyce’s life was one marked by devotion to her family and her community. She was the beloved wife of Paul Hofmeister for 57 remarkable years, a partnership that was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they built a family and created countless cherished memories. Joyce was a guiding light in the lives of her children, nurturing her daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Bill Naylor, with unwavering support and wisdom. Her role as a grandmother was one she embraced with joy, showering her grandsons, Tyler and his wife Sierra, Rick and his wife Kasey, with affection and pride. The arrival of her great-grandchildren, Dax, Everly, and Harbor Naylor, brought her immeasurable happiness. She is also survived by her stepson Jerry Hofmeister, his wife Brenda and grandson Clay of Winter Haven Florida.
Joyce’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family. As a dedicated LPN nurse at Cookeville Regional Medical Center's orthopedics department, she provided care and comfort to countless patients. Her compassion and empathy shone through in her counseling role at Laurel Mental Health Center, also at CRMC and the Personal Growth and Learning Center in Cookeville, where she helped many on their journey to wellness. Joyce’s commitment to her faith was evident through her active membership at Nash Grove Baptist Church in Baxter, where she found strength and community.
Her creativity knew no bounds. Joyce was a talented artist, expressing her love for beauty through custom ceramic tile and glass painting. Her artistic works were not only a reflection of her creative mind but also a legacy of her ability to find and share joy through her craft.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, George Leroy Richardson and Stella Flowers Richardson; her son, Rick Brian Whitener; and her siblings, Betty Hanson, Arzie Claiborne, and Buddy Richardson.
