COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Joseph Bliujus, a beloved family patriarch, passed away on November 6, 2024, at the NHC of Sparta. Born on March 5, 1948, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, he lived a life filled with hard work, dedication, and a remarkable spirit that touched the lives of many.
Joseph's career epitomized the American dream. He began his journey as a bank teller, demonstrating an unwavering commitment and strong work ethic that propelled him to the esteemed position of Vice President at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, from which he eventually retired. His professional legacy is marked by his ability to connect with those around him, forging lasting relationships along the way.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Joseph was known as the life of the party. He possessed a big voice and a warm heart, always meaning what he said and standing by his friends. His generosity knew no bounds; he would often give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. Among his fondest memories were the times spent fishing with his family and friends and becoming an American Citizen.
Joseph proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Marine Corps. He was a dedicated member of the Commodore Barry American Legion Post 256, where he remained active in honoring the service of his fellow veterans.
Joseph is survived by his son, Jerry Bliujus (Sheila); his daughters, Debbie Bliujus-Dec (Susan) and Dawn Marie Johnson; his siblings, David Bliujus (Patricia), Milda Jonauskas, Margarida Carabello (George); his brother-in-law, Terry Kowalski; his ex-wife, Peggy Bliujus; ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. His family remembers him not only for his achievements but, more importantly, for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeronimas and Anele Bliujus, and his sister, Maria Kowalski.
A funeral service with military honors for Joseph will be held at 3pm Friday November 15 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Visitation for friends and family will be from 1-3pm. His final burial will be at St Casimir Catholic Cemetery, in Chicago, at a date to be determined.
Joseph Bliujus leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
