Johnny M. Curry

COOKEVILLE-Funeral services for Dr. Johnny Melvin Curry, Sr., 84, of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, March 25th at 11 am in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Dr. John W. Moody and Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Dr. Curry's family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 7 pm and again Saturday from 10 am until service time at the funeral home. He died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 10, 1933 in Covington, GA and graduated from Newton County High School. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Mercer University. He served his country as a member of the United States Army. He and his late wife, Fay Ola Kirkus Curry married June 8, 1952 in Covington, GA. Dr. Curry loved his Lord with all his heart. He ministered to churches for over 59 years throughout Georgia and locally in Tennessee at First Baptist Church Livingston and Midway Baptist and Emmanuel Baptist Churches in Cookeville. Following retirement, his ministry continued as he served as a Chaplain with Caris Hospice. Dr. Curry was a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Curry, Jr. He is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Beverly and Larry Stockton, of Livingston, Tonja Graham of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Sharon Mann of Cookeville; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and by step-sisters Winkie Green and Hazel Pagne.
