Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Norton, 85 of Cookeville will be held Sunday April 14 at 3 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Norton died Thursday evening April 11, 2013 in Kindred Transitional Care and Rehab-Masters in Algood. She was born August 31, 1927 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Edward Cain and Maggie Clark Stephens. Mrs. Norton was a retired nursing assistant with the former Cookeville General Hospital and was a member of Cookeville Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Nell Stephens, Jo E. Fox, and Margaret Norrod Apple. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jack Norton (whom she married May 27, 1961 in Cookeville); daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dr William Laing of Knoxville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Diane Winningham of Cookeville and Jim and Paige Norton of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren, Bo Winningham, Christopher (Laura) Winningham, Levi Winningham, Kristy (Kevin) Clemens, Monte Norton, Scarlet Norton, and Mack Norton; and two great grandchildren, Baylor Winningham and Adam Clemens; sister, Mildred Williams of Nashville; two nieces, Susan Williams and Brenda Smith, great-niece and nephew, Shannon Hunter and Jim Smith. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Norton's Family will receive friends Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
