COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Johnnie Lee, a beloved matriarch and a cherished member of the community, passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on July 13, 1931, in Overton County, TN, Johnnie was a woman known for her independence, sharp mind, and adventurous spirit.
Johnnie dedicated a significant portion of her career to serving the State of Tennessee, where she worked as an executive assistant for hotel and restaurant inspection. Her attention to detail and commitment to her work exemplified her compassionate nature and her desire to ensure the best for her community.
A proud graduate of the GED program, Johnnie was not just a devoted professional but also a talented singer. She graced the stage at The Opry in Nashville during her 20s, fulfilling a lifelong dream that showcased her exceptional artistic talents.
Johnnie had a deep faith in the Church of God, which guided her throughout her life. She maintained strong connections with her family, often reminiscing about the joy she found in spending time with her grandchildren, Caitlin Lee and Ethan Lee, along with her step-grandchildren, Michael Young and Tabitha McAleesejergins. Her sons, Jason Lee and Michael Lee, and his wife, Janet, of Nashville, were a source of pride and joy for her.
She found great pleasure in visiting her family property in Watertown, TN, where countless memories were made and shared. Johnnie's loving and kind nature touched the lives of many, and her adventurous spirit inspired those around her.
Johnnie reunites with her beloved parents, Emmit and Allie Lee; her late husband, Hargis Lee; and her siblings, Opal, Florence, Jessie Lee, and brother F.T. Lee, who have been waiting for her embrace.
A graveside service will be held on January 30, 2025, at Old Union Cemetery in Hilham, TN. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Johnnie Lee, whose legacy of love, compassion, and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
