Funeral services for Mr. John Thomas Nichols, age 92 of Cookeville will be held Tuesday April 11 at 2 p.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Christian Smith and Dr. Charles McCaskey officiating. Interment will follow in Phillips Cemetery. Mr. Nichols died Friday afternoon April 7, 2017 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born December 28, 1924 in Algood, Tennessee to the late James Madison and Cora Etta Lee Nichols. John was a long-time member and former Elder at Cookeville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he will be fondly remembered for his many years of service as a greeter. He was also a 50-year member of Center Line Masonic Lodge #550 F&AM in Madison Heights, MI. He retired after a 30-year career as a Supervisor in the Hydromatic Division of General Motors in Detroit, MI. John loved the outdoors, farming, gardening, and growing vegetables. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Reba Stamps; and two brothers, Glen and Bobby Nichols. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Brotherton Nichols; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia (Cyndi) and Frank Rauch of Wyandotte, MI; two sons, Bruce Nichols of Southgate, MI, and Kelvin Nichols of Lincoln Park, MI; five grandchildren, Abigail (Adam) Graves, Allison (Nick) Birmingham, Anna (Mark) Stanko, Chad Nichols, and Jace (Elaina) Nichols; seven great grandchildren, Averie, Ainsley, Leighton, Archer, Trey, Kemp, and Addison; brother, Earl Nichols of Cookeville; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. John's family will receive friends Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Tuesday from 12 noon until service time at Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
