Services with veterans honors for John Albert Monk, age 80, of Cookeville, will be 1 p.m. Saturday March 24 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Tosh officiating. A Masonic service will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time. John passed away Wednesday March 14, 2018 in Chattanooga, TN. He was born March 9, 1938 in Valdosta, GA to the late Kenneth Albert and Faye Collins Monk. John was a member and deacon of Bangham Heights Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard. He was a retired detective with the Fort Pierce, FL Police Department. He worked part-time with Putnam County. John served in many civic and community organizations. He was a 32 Degree Mason and member of Fort Pierce Lodge 87 FA&M. He also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, past president of the Putnam County Shrine Club, member of the Algood Lions Club, and member of the Putnam County Walking Horse Association. John loved being outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, gardening, boating and scuba diving. He also enjoyed observing wildlife and caring for his horses and pets. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faye Harris Monk, (they were married August 16, 1959 in Fort Pierce, FL); two sons and daughter-in-law, Brad Monk of Cookeville, Greg and Ann Bright Monk of Chattanooga, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Brenda Monk of Valdosta; and special cousins, Shirley Gibson, David Willis, and Bobby Willis. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Carla (Bill) Orcutt and their children, Kristi and William Orcutt and their grandson, Benjamin Orcutt of Kansas; sister-in-law, Cynde (Gerald) Diminovich of Gainesboro, and their daughter, Katie (Micah) Rowland of Cookeville, (grandson, Princeton Rowland), their son, Dustin Diminovich of Gainesboro; brother-in-law, Tommy (Kitty) Harris, and their son Cal Harris all of Fort Pierce, FL; brother-in-law, Pat (Patti) Harris, and their daughter, Leslie (Benton) all of Columbia, SC.
