Funeral services for Mr. John Dawson Moles, age 90 of Cookeville, will be held Friday October 3, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. James Phillips officiating. Entombment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Moles' family will receive friends Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner and again Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. He died Monday evening September 29, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 29, 1924 in Rickman, TN to the late Lee Washington and Leona Hammons Moles. Mr. Moles was a WWII Veteran, serving as a light tank driver in the United States Army. He also served in the Army Reserves and later was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He and his wife lived in Dayton, Ohio where he worked initially for General Motors but worked primarily as a bus driver for City Transit Bus Company (Now RTA). He was a long time member and Sunday School teacher at First General Baptist Church in Dayton. Upon moving to Cookeville in 1973, he enjoyed gardening, repairing lawn mowers and attended Hilham Road Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Netherton; three brothers, Robert, Lee and Doug Moles; and by three sisters, Elsie Hammons, Della Hammons and Geneva Lambert. Mr. Moles is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Elise Loftis Moles (whom he married June 6, 1947 in Rossville, GA); son, Ron (Jane) Moles of Dawsonville, GA; three grandchildren, Staci (Craig) Eggleton of Devon, PA, Michael (Sarah) Netherton of McMInnville, TN and Carrie Brooks of Dawsonville, GA; and by six great-grandchildren, Alexis and Cole Eggleton and David, Lydia, Susanna and Abigail Netherton; son-in-law, David (Carol) Netherton of Cookeville, TN; and by brothers-in-law, Howard (Lynn) Loftis of Hilham and Paul (Vera) Loftis of Cookeville, TN. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
