John Hollis Milligan III, 76, outdoorsman, engineer, Navy veteran, saxophonist, farmer and beloved uncle, great uncle, brother-in-law and friend passed peacefully in Cookeville Regional Hospital on June 17, 2013. He was preceded in death by John Hollis Milligan, Jr. (father), Martha Lee Milligan Saunders (mother) and Mary Lee Milligan Owen (sister). He is survived by his nephews and nieces, John and Mary Jean Owen and Alan and Melinda Owen James; great nephews and nieces Josh Owen, Chase and Megan James Duncan, Dane Owen, Dillon James and Denney Owen; his great, great niece Anastasia Owen and many, many friends. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Pete. Uncle John was a graduate if Central High School and TTU, where he received his engineering degree. He was a Navy veteran achieving the rank of Captain. He retired from both Texas Instruments and Carrier, but never retired from "playing music"� and working his land with Pete. Per his request, there will be no "formal"� funeral, nor memorial; but instead, a "celebration of his life"� (jeans and overalls allowed) at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper- Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home at 4:00pm Thursday, June 20 with Rev. Drew Shelley presiding. A reception will be held immediatelyfollowing the service. If so inclined, in lieu of flowers, please contact Sue Box at 931-528-5781 for donations to the Putnam Co.
