John E Mathis

Graveside services and interment for Mr. John Ernest Mathis, age 91 of Hoover, Alabama, will be held Friday, February 17, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Salem Cemetery.  Pastor Todd Sutton will officiate.

His family will receive friends Friday from 1:00pm until 2:30 PM at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.

Mr. Mathis died Wednesday February 15, 2023 at Compassus Hospice in Birmingham.

He was born August 27, 1931 in Cookeville, TN to the late Bedford Mathis and Anna Jewel Harris Mathis. He was a graduate of Cookeville Central High School and Tennessee Tech University and served in the National Guard.

Mr. Mathis worked in the cement industry and his career included working for Alpha Portland Cement and Holcim Cement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Florene Mae Mathis.

He is survived by a daughter, Carol Anne Yarbrough, of Hoover; a son, John "Kevin" (Debbie) Mathis, of Morris, Alabama; two grandchildren, John Landon (Megan) Mathis and Elizabeth (Jonathan) Sisson, great-grandchildren, Maelee-Jane Mathis and Mason Adam Mathis; and by a sister, Vickie (Lynn) Bouldin, of Cookeville and by a host of nieces and nephews.
