John B. Roberts

A memorial service for Mr. John B. Roberts "The Popcorn Man", 86, of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, September 16th at 4:00 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Bro. Buddy Johnson will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Roberts' family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. He passed away Wednesday morning, September 12, 2018 at NHC Healthcare Cookeville. He was born February 9, 1932 in Jackson County, TN to the late Vestal and Anna Ruth Alcorn Roberts. He moved to Dearborn Heights, MI and was employed at General Motors as a benefits administrator for over 30 years. John had a kind, outgoing and vibrant nature and lived life full of enthusiasm. He was known by many as Popcorn Man as he shared his delicious homemade popcorn with friends and family for many years. Pa John, as he was known in later years, was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. John's was also a man of deep faith and was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. He preached in various churches for many years. He was a member of Taylor Center Church of Christ while living in Michigan and was a member of Double Springs Church of Christ upon returning to live in Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Donna Marie White Roberts; and by siblings, Billie, Lena, Bobby Lewis Roberts, Martin Roberts and Marvin Roberts. He is survived by his adoring family, his son, Wayne Roberts and wife Pam Roberts, daughter, Sue Ann Doran and husband Steve of Shelby Township, MI ; grandchildren, Sarah (Jared) Smith, Rachel (Chase) Jordan, Miranda (CJ) Holton, Josh Doran, Jamie (Daniel) Pasternak, Alexis (Najee) Wooten and Brett Roberts; six great grandchildren; and siblings Carol, Mike, Ann, James, Homer, Judy, Barbara, Martha, & Virginia.
