DYER CHAPEL - Joel Henry Perkins, born on June 16, 1946, in Baxter, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on February 25, 2025 at the age of 78. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose legacy will endure in the hearts of his loved ones.
Joel's educational journey began at Upperman High School in Baxter, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to hard work and family. His dedication to his career as a car and boat salesman was evident throughout his life, culminating in a well-deserved retirement in 2009. His professionalism and commitment to customer satisfaction left a lasting impact on many within the community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joel was an avid fisherman who found joy on the water. He cherished the bonds formed through fishing and instilled a love for the outdoors in his family. Most importantly, Joel loved his family and friends fiercely, always prioritizing time with them in his pursuits and interests.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mamie "Sue" Perkins of Baxter, and his sons Shane (Kim) Gantt and Chad Gantt, as well as his daughters Suzanne (Tim) Jones and Kimberly (John) Sliger. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Bret Jones, Taylor Randolph, Blake Sliger, Caleb Gantt, Ty Gantt, Aidan Jones, Avery Jones, Landry Henley, and Bradley Sliger, and great-grandchildren Lyza Sliger, Huxston, Ellie, and Harper.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Robert and Zora Estelle Boyd Perkins, who laid the groundwork for the values he carried throughout his life.
As we remember Joel Henry Perkins, we celebrate a life well-lived, one marked by laughter, love, and kindness. His spirit and warmth will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
