Funeral services for Mr. Joseph "Joe" Franklin Dyer Jr. 79 of Cookeville will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday August 11 in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Robertson and Rev. Pat Handlson officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. A Masonic Memorial will be Monday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Joe's family will receive friends Monday from 5 – 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Dyer died Sunday morning August 9, 2015 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born November 5, 1935 in Cookeville, TN to the late Joseph Franklin and Nell Gentry Dyer, Sr. Joe graduated from Putnam County High School in 1954, and attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute from 1954-1957. He served in the US Army from 1957 until 1978. After retiring from the US Army, he continued his education at Tennessee Tech University where he earned a BS in History in 1980 and an MS in Education in 1982. He worked for Bank of Putnam County until his 2nd retirement in 2001. In service to his community, Mr. Dyer was a member of the Cookeville Kiwanis Club for 13 years, American Legion Post 46 for 35 years, and a member of the Cookeville Masonic Lodge #266 F & AM, serving as Secretary for 18 years. He was a member of the Cookeville York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite Bodies of Chattanooga and Nashville, and was a former member of Al Menah Shrine Temple. He was also a member of Cookeville First Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Faye Dyer and her husband, John V. West. Joe is survived by wife, Hae S. Dyer: daughter, Dr. Angela M. Dyer, and husband, Jason Coleman; three sons, R. Frank Dyer and wife, Sandi, Patrick R. Dyer and Andreas B. Dyer; six grandchildren: Ainsley and Wyatt Coleman, Dr. Jared Dyer and wife, Dr. Rebecca Dyer, Keith Dyer and wife, Marissa, Ryan Dyer and Amber Dyer; three brothers, Charles Dyer and wife, Emogene, Gary R. Dyer and wife, Sharon, and Bill Dyer and wife, Pam; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joe is remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend. Pallbearers will be: Tracy Thompson, Bill Kellman, Tom Key, John Spencer, Kenny Matheney, Richard Smith, Eddie Scott, Mike Bryant, Ronnie Scott and Wayne Ogletree.
