COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Joanne Louise Wagner, a beloved speech pathologist, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, at her residence in Cookeville, Tennessee at the age of 78. Born on April 30, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, Joanne lived a life steeped in faith and service, touching the lives of countless individuals through her professional work and her deep commitment to her Catholic faith.
She achieved her bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin in 1974 and furthered her education with a master’s degree from Northwestern University in 1985, specializing in speech pathology. Joanne’s dedication to her career was evident in her compassionate approach to helping others communicate effectively.
Joanne was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Cookeville, where she found joy in prayer and community fellowship. Her spiritual commitment was a guiding force in her life, influencing her actions and the way she connected with those around her.
Joanne is survived by her four sons: Donald Thomas (Margaret) Wagner, Matthew Paul (Geraldine) Wagner, Mark Andrew Wagner, and John Frederick Wagner. She leaves behind her loving siblings, brother Jack Waitkus and sister Sylvia Waitkus. Joanne also leaves behind her precious grand children Donald Wagner, Nicole Wagner, Grant Wagner, Mason Wagner, Christopher Fiero, Jessica Wagner, Vincent Wagner, Michael Wagner, Gregory Wagner, Ashley Wagner, Jordan Wagner and Austyn Wagner.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anne Susin Waitkus, as well as her brothers, Dane and Richard Waitkus.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Joanne Louise Wagner will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11:00 am in the St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Fr. Gervan Menezes, M.Div officiating. Interment will follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 am until the service at the church.
Joanne Louise Wagner will be remembered for her unwavering faith, kindness, and the legacy of compassion she left in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to inspire those she touched.
