Joan Christopher

Dona Joan Balfour Christopher, 77, passed away at her home in Cookeville on Oct 12, 2022 following a long illness. Graveside services and interment will be Sunday, Oct 16, 2022 at 3 pm at the Cookeville City Cemetery.

Joan was born December 13, 1944 in Little Rock Arkansas. She grew up in Arkansas, graduated from Little Rock Central High School, Ouachita Baptist University and earned a masters degree from Vanderbilt University. Most of her career work was in student services at Vol State Community College and at Nashville State Community College in Nashville and at the Cookeville campus. She moved from Nashville to Cookeville in 1997. For a short time she served as Acting Director of the Cookeville Campus. She was very popular with students and staff. After retirement she continued to live in Cookeville and often said that she loved this town. She was a loving wife and greatly enjoyed visits from relatives and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Russell Wayne Christopher, step daughters-in-law Gwendolyn Rodriquez of Clarksville, Daphne Hakuno of Shoreline Washington, five grandchildren and twin sister Dana Jean Balfour Metz of Cookeville and nephews David and Daniel Metz.
