Jimmie Thompson

Jimmie Katherine Howard Thompson, age 91 of Knoxville, daughter of the late John Henry and Estalee Rippetoe Howard of Cookeville, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jimmie was a founding member of Norwood United Methodist Church. She and her former husband Marvin Thompson were early pioneers in Knoxville and East Tennessee radio. Later, she owned and operated Personnel Resources until her retirement in the early nineties. Following retirement, she worked with CAC as a Senior Home Companion. Jimmie was also preceded in death by former husband Marvin I. Thompson Sr. and husband Hugh William Bateman; son Marvin I. (Tommy) Thompson Jr; and brother John Henry Howard, Jr. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law John Rogers Thompson and wife Janice Sansing, William Howard Thompson and wife Suzan, and daughter-in-law Sharon Thompson; grandchildren Jason Boatner, Gennifer Batts, Christopher Thompson; Heather, Christian, Matthew Thompson and their mother Chris Franklin; Laura, Amy, and Jenny Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express its appreciation to caregivers at Senior Solutions Home Care and Amedisys Hospice. The family will receive friends at Norwood United Methodist Church from 12 – 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 16, with funeral service immediately following. Reverends Joe Phillips and Bob Ruth will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
