Funeral services for Sgt. James Hubert Wyatt, age 49 of Lauderhill, FL and formerly of Murfreesboro and Cookeville, will be held Sunday, June 19th at 1 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Mr. Wyatt's family will receive friends Saturday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again Sunday from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Wyatt died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Florida Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was born October 15, 1966 in Cookeville to the James ‘Jim' Lester and Peggy Sue Ford Wyatt. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a 1985 graduate of Cookeville High School and attended Tennessee Tech. Jim lived out his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. He started his distinguished career in law enforcement in Smyrna, GA in 1988. He began working at Murfreesboro Police Department in 1991 where he served and was promoted to Sergeant. He was awarded MPD's Meritorious Service Medal in 2012 after saving the life of a Murfreesboro resident in July of that year. Dedicated to his family and job, he was a friend to everyone and was very well liked and respected. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Alabama fan. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Rebecca Wyatt; brother, Andy Wyatt of Cookeville; sisters, Felicia Martin of Springfield and Michelle Shelton of Murfreesboro; uncles, Gary (Bobbie) Wyatt of Cookeville and Jack Wyatt of Murfreesboro, nephews, Matt Prowse and Chase Shelton; nieces, Holly Prowse and Macy Shelton; and by close friend and cousin, Jason Wyatt. Members of the Murfreesboro Police Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
