Jewell Phillips

Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Phillips, 84 of Murfreesboro and formerly of Monterey, will be held Saturday May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Sand Springs Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Phillips died Thursday morning May 8, 2014 at Northside Healthcare and Rehab Center in Murfreesboro after a 4 month illness. She was born December 6, 1929 in Fentress County, Tennessee to the late Owen and Verna Elmore Miller. Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker; a member of New Vision Baptist Church; and a former member of Monterey First Baptist Church and Sand Springs Baptist Church. She will be missed by all but she is a citizen in Heaven now and we would not call her back. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Phillips; sister, Eula Bilbrey; and brother, Glenn Miller. She is survived by her children: Shirley (Bob) Stamps of Murfreesboro, Rick (Sue) Phillips of Monterey, and Kevin Phillips of Murfreesboro. Four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Julianne (Darrell) Scott, their children, Meghan and Brittney of Murfreesboro, Chris (Beth) Phillips, their children, Aurora (Rory) and Alexander (Lex) of Sacramento, CA, Nathan (Jennifer) their children, Andrew and Matthew of Monterey, Steven (Brey) Stamps, their children, Ella and Ben of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Claudine Wilson and Reba Swallows both of Clarkrange; brother, Wendell Miller of Chattanooga; two sisters-in-law, Magnolia Swallows and Elza Ray Swallows both of Monterey; two brothers-in-law, Charles (Wanda) Phillips of Sun Lakes, AZ and Arthur (Joyce) Phillips Jr. of Mesa, AZ; along with numerous nieces and nephews along with friends both in Monterey and Murfreesboro. Pallbearers will be Rick Phillips, Arthur Phillips, Bob Stamps, Nathan Phillips, Steven Stamps, and Darrell Scott. Mrs. Phillips family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
