Jewel Sliger

Graveside funeral services for Jewel Sliger, age 83, of Cookeville, will be Thursday morning, September 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart Cemetery. Mrs. Sliger passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Bethesda Health Care Center. Jewel was born February 8, 1931 in Cookeville to the late Thomas Choate and Anna Burgess Choate. She was a great homemaker, sacrificial mother, and lovingly motivated her family while encouraging them to be and do all they could. Jewel started and owned Cookeville Florist for several years. She was a member of the Cane Creek Baptist Church and loved her church family. Jewel is survived by three children; Rose Ann Sliger of Cookeville, Bruce (Arlene) Sliger of Atlanta, and Van (Marta) Sliger also of Cookeville, as well as six grandchildren; Chad and John Sliger, Chase (Gigi) Sliger, Haley Sliger, Matthew Sliger and Justin Kindrick. In addition she is survived by one brother, Thomas Choate (Johnni) of Sparta and two sisters; Anna Lou Young Flatt (Finas), and Virgina Fuqua (Luther) both of Cookeville. Mrs. Sliger is also survived by two great-grandchildren; Luci and Martin Sliger. In addition to her husband, Whitley Odell Sliger, Jewel was preceded in death by her brother, Sam Choate, a sister, Gladys Gunther, and an infant sister. Bro. Charles Hutchinson will be conducting the services.
