Funeral services for Mr. Jerry L. Baxter will be Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 4:00pm in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 6:00pm. Jerry L. Baxter passed away peacefully in his Hilham, Tennessee home on a beautiful sunny morning knowing that he was loved by his children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. He was born October 15, 1940 to Dollie Ann Harless Baxter and George Baxter in Muncie, Indiana. He also had a loving step mother, Katherine Baxter. He was a Bearcat, Golden Gloves Boxer, worked at many factories in Muncie, notably Westinghouse and was a Printer at Container Corporation of America for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman and loved working on anything that he could take apart and put back together. You could always find him working on cars, collecting coins, repairing pocket watches, competitive crappie fishing, gardening, bee keeping, feeding his hummingbirds or at a flea market looking for a bargain. He moved to Tennessee after he retired and built his cabin on 27 acres with a hand saw and no electricity. He became a “mountain man”, which was very lonely at times. He tried to be a friend to everyone, no matter what their circumstances in life dealt them. He was outspoken, told the best jokes and loved a good laugh. He was fortunate enough to be married to two wonderful women during his life time, Melitta (Beal) and Choi Baxter. He was married to Choi for nearly 27 years and lived in Drumm Addition on 27th Street and later on East 22nd Street in Muncie. He recently became a Texas Hold ‘Em player, always discussing the odds and strategies not just with poker but with all things in life. Unfortunately, he lost his battle against cancer at the age of 74 on February 4, 2015. His children: Jerry “Nick” Baxter (partner: Roberta Regan) and their children: Ashley, Janet, Amber, Monica, Markus, Nicholas Jeremy and little John. Residents of Muncie.
