Funeral services for Jerry Mitchell Boyd, age 75, of Cookeville, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday April 24 in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Scott McKinney will officiate. Interment will follow in the Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 - 7 p.m. and again Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time. Mr. Boyd passed away Sunday April 21, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was born October 29, 1943 in Cookeville, TN to the late Aubrey Michael and Cora Belle Frizzell Boyd. Mr. Boyd graduated from Cookeville High School in 1962. He grew up on a farm in the Shipley Community of Putnam County. He spent his lifetime farming, raising registered Polled Hereford and then registered Angus cattle. Many respected him for his knowledge of genetics of both breeds of cattle. He used this extensive knowledge to successfully produce a strong herd. He raised and sold cattle to cattlemen throughout the Upper Cumberland and Southeast. He was a member of the Polled Hereford and American Angus Associations. At the age of 12, he decided to live his life as a Christian. He was strong in his faith and beliefs. Mr. Boyd was a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Sue George Dotson Boyd, of 27 years; a sister and brother-in-law, Lou Ann and Davis Watts; a brother-in-law, James George III; a nephew, James Davis Watts, Jr.; and a niece, Ann Boyd (Wilson) Davis, and their children, Andrew and Annabelle Davis. Sue's children Jedd (Teresa) Dotson; Karen (John) Wheeler; Jennifer (Mark) Creter; Cathy (Josh) Shultz; her grandchildren Jeremy (Amanda) Dotson; Callie (Jason) Huffman; Gus Creter; Daniel, Emma, and James Shultz; Alli (John) Ledford; Ben Wheeler; and great-grandchildren Stella, Evelyn, and Atticus Huffman. Pallbearers will be Harold, Ronnie, David, Eddie, Greg, Joey, and Steve Frizzell; George and David Boyd. Memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville First Baptist Church, Missions Fund, 18 S.
