Funeral services for Mrs. Imogene ‘Jean' Flatt Brown, age 90 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 3:00pm at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Clarence DeLoach will officiate. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Brown's family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and again Wednesday from 1:00pm until service time at the funeral home. She died Monday morning, January 29, 2018 at NHC Healthcare Cookeville. She was born November 17, 1927 in Bloomington Springs, TN to the late Carlie B. and Vella Ethel Rodgers Flatt. Jean was raised in the Martins Creek community where she attended Maple Shade school. Jean was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be fondly remembered for her supportive, encouraging and giving nature. She first worked at Cookeville Shirt Factory and made many lifelong friends and later she and her late husband Hayden Brown owned and operated Brown Electric. She was a member of the Bussell Church of Christ. Jean enjoyed vacations with friends, watching television reruns of shows like Andy Griffin and Matlock, listening to country music and CD's of brother Clarence DeLoach's sermons and listening to Bible readings. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and was known for her famous fried chicken and dried apple stack cake. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 years, Avert Hayden Brown, Sr.; son, Dr. Hayden Brown, Jr. and by grandson, Justin David Brown. She is survived by her daughters, Connie McBride and husband Flaveous of Sparta and Mena Williams and husband Eugene of Baxter; son, David Brown and wife Angela of Cookeville; grandchildren, Mark (Stephanie) McBride of Cookeville, Sonya (Greg) Bowman of Hanging Limb, Dava Whittaker of Sparta, Tyler (Becky) Brown and Madison Brown of Cookeville and Ashley Brown of Fayetteville, AR; great grandchildren, Clay Brady, Levi Whittaker, Hannah Bowman and Raelyn Justin Brown; and brothers in law, Charles Brown and Millis Brown, both of Pulaski, TN. Bub Stockton, Lester Pritchard, Terry Lewis, Rick Dyer, Eddie Brown and Greg Bowman, Steve Maxwell, and Kenny Randolph will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to thank staff, nurses, and especially caregivers from Homecare Givers, NHC nursing home, and Dr. Kenny Lynn and staff for their support and gentle loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to Bussell Church of Christ, 569 Ditty Rd., Cookeville, TN 38501, Happy Haven Children's Home, 2311 Wakefield Dr., Cookeville, TN 38501 and/or to Heart of the Cumberland, 377 Short St. Ste A, Cookeville, TN 38501.
