Funeral services for Aletha Jane Fields, age 87, were held at 11 a.m. Friday July 30 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Madden officiated. Interment followed at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Her family received friends Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Friday from 9 a.m. until service time. Mrs. Fields passed away Tuesday July 27, 2021 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born August 5, 1933 in Jackson County, TN to the late Richmond Patterson Allen and Vallie Iller Johnson Allen. Mrs. Fields worked as a seamstress at Red Kap industries in Cookeville from 1964 until her retirement in 1994. Prior to that, she was employed at Lay’s Five and Dime in Cookeville. Known by friends as Janie, she was a very sociable lady who enjoyed visiting with neighbors and family and cooking for everyone. She also loved to make people laugh. When asked how she was feeling, she would usually reply, “with my fingers”. She is survived by son, Delton Fields, Jr. and his wife Janet; daughter, Brenda Callahan, all of Cookeville; grandchildren Christopher Fields, Alyssa Sisco, Benjamin Callahan and Katie Callahan and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delton Fields; sister, Anna Ruth Chaffin; brother, John William Allen; granddaughter Kimberly Ann Fields; and grandson, Brandon Lee Callahan.
