She was born April 26, 1944 in Putnam County at the old hospital, located on the town square, to the late Cecil Radford Clark and Andrea B. Roberts Clark. Mrs. Goodpasture was a Christian and attended Collegeside Church of Christ. She worked and served Christ with her husband, who ministered the Word of God for some 57 years. She is survived by her husband, William Lee (Bill) Goodpasture, whom she married on August 22, 1965, in Cookeville at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. She is survived also by her daughters, Jana Karise Cheatham of Hendersonville, TN and Melanee Lee (Bobby) Bandy of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Taylor Britt Cheatham, Robert Walker Cheatham, Kari Kennedy Cheatham, Elijah Luke Bandy, and Elizabeth Grace (Liza) Bandy. She is also survived by one brother, Phillip Clark, and two sisters, Carol Clark Flinn and Lanita Clark Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents and by two sisters, Cecile Anne Clark Greene and Lenora Gail Clark West and her son-in-law, Terry Cheatham. Janice was a graduate of Rickman High School. She attended Lipscomb University and graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a B.S. degree in Vocational Home Economics. She later graduated with her M.A. in Consumer and Family Sciences from Western Kentucky University. She also completed 18 hours in a doctoral program at the University of Tennessee in Human Ecology. This led to a teaching career of 28 years that included Flint High School (Flint, MI) and Lebanon High School (Lebanon, TN). She later taught Consumer and Family Sciences at Lipscomb University, was Assistant Professor (14 years) and Adjunct Professor at U.T. Martin and Murray State Universities. She served in various roles with the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, including Vice-President (Program of Work), President-Elect, Conference Chair, and President. She was also the Tennessee Delegate to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in Washington, DC, in 2003. Janice was a true teacher at heart. In addition to her educational career, more importantly she taught at church: Sunday School, ladies' classes, and teen girls. Her favorite scripture was from Psalm 78: "For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them – even the children not yet born – and they in turn will teach their own children." Janice was foremost a devoted wife to her preacher husband. He found that in all the churches they ministered that the congregations loved her more that they did him. This served to benefit their ministry considerably. Secondly, she as a lifelong blessing to her two daughters, bringing them up in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord." A special note of thanks is extended to the 45 faithful ladies of the Collegeside Church of Christ who for more than four years provided sitters for her care every day, so her husband could get out of the house and do his necessary jobs. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 or stjude.org/give. Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
