Funeral services for Janet Swann Craighead, 65, of Cookeville will be held at 1 p.m. Monday August 6, at Collegeside Church of Christ with Joe Roberts officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 till 8 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner and Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Cemetery. She passed away Thursday morning August 3, 2018 surrounded by the three things she loved most: God, her family, and her beloved little dog, Millie. Janet was born Thursday March 26, 1953 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Wayne Fleming Swann and Odell Looper Swann. She was a 1971 graduate of Celina High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in Education from Tennessee Technological University in 1974 and received her M.S degree in Guidance and Counseling from TTU in 1981. She had a varied and successful career as an elementary educator, a primary and secondary librarian, and a guidance counselor, as well as working at Volunteer State Community College in Livingston and Cookeville Higher Education Campus as a Librarian. Janet also became a certified resource teacher and taught at Prescott Middle School and Northeast Elementary, and she worked with Plateau Mental Health Center's program for juveniles with behavior problems. She always enjoyed seeing and talking with any of her former students. Janet and her parents moved to Cookeville in 1980 and began attending Collegeside Church of Christ. It was there she met Phil Craighead, and they were married on October 20, 1984 at Collegeside. Janet is survived by her husband, Phil, two daughters, Rachel and Emily all of Cookeville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ava Craighead of Cookeville, Don (Margaret) Craighead of Portland, and Jerrell Craighead of Alexandria; life-long friend, Mary Lou Thompson, and special friends Wally and Sharon Brines of Cookeville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Rebecca Louise Craighead, and brother-in-law, Charles Craighead. Pallbearers will be family and special friends of Janet. Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Peterson and Brenda Glazier. Janet's family would like to say a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stephens Dudley and his staff at Tennessee Oncology, Caris Hospice for their kind care of Janet, the magnificent nurses and aides at St. Thomas West 7-C, the Elders at Collegeside Church of Christ, and Sunday School Class 107 for all the support, food, cards, calls and love shown to Janet and family.
