Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Goodman, age 88 of Cookeville, will be held Monday, October 22, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Head and Rev. Scott McKinney will officiate. Her family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. In addition, a graveside service and interment will be held at McKinney Cemetery in Rogersville, TN on Tuesday October 23 at 2:00 (EST) with Rev. Bill Stone officiating. Visitation will be held at Christian Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville TN from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. She died Friday, October 19, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born November 1, 1929 in Hancock County, Tennessee to the late Hugh Sherman and Elsie Catherine Lawson Moles. Jane enjoyed learning throughout her life. She earned a bachelor's degree in Home Economics and Education from the University of Tennessee and both a master's degree in Library Science and a Ed.S. degree from Tennessee Tech University. She was a long-time and active member of Cookeville First Baptist Church. Mrs. Goodman is survived by two daughters, Jane Dickerson of Birmingham, Alabama and Penny Varner (Jim) of Tampa, Florida and four grandchildren, William Dickerson of Dallas, Texas, Robert Dickerson of Chicago, Illinois, Catherine Varner of Atlanta, Georgia and Sarah Varner of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; three sisters-in-law, Inez McBee (John) of Kingsport, Tennessee, Carolyn Goodman of Knoxville, Tennessee and Vivian Goodman of Shreveport, Louisiana; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by special family friend Meredith Thompson Devereaux (Matt) of Knoxville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mark Harris and by her husband of 56 years, LT. Colonel (Ret.) William Penn "Bill" Goodman. Pallbearers are Aron Devereaux, James Devereaux, Matt Devereaux, Robert Dickerson, William Dickerson, Wayland Hawkins and Wade Raines. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Mature Adult Sunday School class at First Baptist Church in Cookeville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 18 S. Walnut Ave, Cookeville, TN 38501 and/or TTU Foundation, P.O. Box 1915, Cookeville, TN 38505.
