James Zebedee Burgess

COOKEVILLE -- Funeral services for James Zebedee Burgess, 78, of Cookeville, will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, from the chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. today, Sunday, Aug. 3, at the funeral home. Mr. Burgess died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at his home. He was born July 28, 1930, in Nashville to the late Richard and Dorothy Burgess. He was owner of Abstract and Title in Cookeville. Mr. Burgess authored a genealogical book tracing the Burgess family ancestry entitled 'Burgess History: A Tennessee Pioneer.' He was actively involved in the preservation and support of Burgess Falls State Park. His family includes his wife, Bonnie Burgess of Cookeville; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Z. and Amy Burgess Jr. of Peach Tree City, Ga., and Michael A. and Stephanie Burgess of Woodstock, Ga.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rochelle and Charles Roulette and Carol A. and Mark Farris, all of Cookeville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William Burgess of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and John and Linda Burgess of Deltona, Fla.; two sisters, Peggy Franz of Lantana, Fla., and Dottie Ball of Pensacola, Fla.; and six grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Herbert Jr., Charles Jarvis and Thomas Edward Burgess. Memorial donations may be made to Burgess Falls State Park. Pastor Parker Burgess will officiate at the services.
