The family will receive friends and family on Monday, August 19 at Dyer Funeral Home, 4-8pm. Jim was born on June 9, 1944, to the late Walter Borden and Ermine (Eldridge) Borden of Cookeville. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce (Mahler) Borden, his daughter and son-in-law Jenny and Brian Shoemaker, sons Mark Borden and Aaron Borden, daughters Janet Wheeler and Julie Borden, and grandchildren Jacob Wheeler and Merry Wheeler. His family also includes two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail (Borden) and Jeff Hunter of Knoxville and Linda (Borden) and Roy Bridgewater of Brownsville, TN, 4 nieces, 2 nephews, and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by daughter Sharlene (Borden) Gladstone, grandson Johnathon Wheeler, and brother-in-law David Mahler. Jim held many and varied interests including a life-long love of music, an aptitude for all things electrical, and an enjoyment of Tennessee backroads and parks. He may be most remembered for his long white beard, his quirky sense of humor, and snapping photos every chance he got. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jim's beloved church, University Heights Baptist, for the school backpack program.
