Funeral services for Mr. James Alfred "Jim"� Robbins, 92 of Monterey will be held Monday September 19 at 1 p.m. at Monterey First Baptist Church. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Whittaker Cemetery. Rev. Johnny Bowman will officiate. Mr. Robbins died Thursday evening September 15, 2011 at Southern Care Assisted Living in Franklin. He was born March 14, 1919 in Monterey to the late Willis and Alice Gunter Robbins. Mr. Robbins was baptized in 1931 and been a member of Monterey First Baptist Church for over 80 years. He was managing partner with Putnam County Lumber Company and Tennessee Land and Timber Company until his retirement. He was a Chief Petty Officer with the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was serving aboard the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier and witnessed General Doolittle taking off in the No. 1 plane for the bombing of Japan. Following the sinking of the USS Hornet he was stationed aboard the USS Lexington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Abby Morris Robbins; three sisters, Maurine Brown, Claudine Dunn, and Anna Grace Bandy; and his son-in-law, Bob Loudermilk. Survivors include two daughters, Beth Loudermilk and Abigayle Robbins both of Brentwood; two grandchildren, Robert K. (Alicia) Loudermilk of Brentwood and Bethany (Patrick) Tatum of Pulaski, TN; and two great grandchildren, Liza Loudermilk and Liam Tatum. The Veterans Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Monterey First Baptist Church 106 North Chestnut Monterey, TN 38574 His family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at the church.
