James Manier

Funeral services for Mr. James Edward Manier, age 85 of Cookeville, will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 11:00am in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Gillock will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery.

His family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and again Thursday from 9am until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Manier died Monday March 27, 2023 at his residence.

He was born February 12, 1938 in Jackson County, TN to the late James Howard and Ethel McBroom Manier.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Fern Manier; and by brothers, Felix Manier, Kenneth Manier and Jackie Earl Manier.

Mr. Manier proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1976 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military retirement, he began a career in law enforcement as a member of the Tennessee Tech Campus Police,serving in that capacity for 21 years. He possessed a strong work ethic and was a man of his word who was trustworthy and reliable. His life was centered around his family as he cherished time with his wife, sons and grandchildren.

Mr. Manier is survived by his wife of 56 years, Chisato (Chris) Kokubun Manier; sons, Felix Manier, Jimmy Dale (Tammy) Manier, John (DD) Manier and Jeff (Kaylen) Manier; granchildren, Adam, Alex, Jacob, John David, Rebekah, Aden and Mila Manier; brother, Brownie Manier; and by sisters, Linda Barnes, Judy Voorhies, Charlotte Ragland and Patricia Stewart.

Adam Manier, Alex Manier, Aden Manier, Jacob Manier, John David Manier and Gregg Voorhies will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rebekah Manier and Mila Manier.
