DYER CHAPEL-James Carl Hastings, affectionately known as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024, at The Waters of Gainesboro Nursing Home. Born on October 5, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, Jim's journey through life was marked by his kind spirit, love for music, and the joy he found in his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jim's father, Robert E. Hastings, preceded him in death, but he is survived by his loving mother, Ruby Hastings. Jim's family circle extended through his amicable relationship with his ex-wife, Sheila Hastings, and was further enriched by his step-children, Kayla Mahan (husband, Garrett), Justin Smith, and Keiwana Copeland. His step-grandchildren, Angel Smith, Michael Copeland, and Timber Smith, brought immense happiness to his life. Jim is also survived by his brother, Bob Hastings, and his close friend, Mike Dietz, who will all cherish his memory.
Professionally, Jim was known for his years of dedicated service as a truck driver for Southeastern Wholesale in Gainesboro, Tennessee.
Beyond his professional life, Jim's passions were deeply rooted in the simple pleasures of life. He had an enduring love for music, which was a source of comfort and joy throughout his years. His greatest pride, however, was found in the time spent with his step-grandchildren. Each moment with them was treasured, and their milestones and achievements were celebrated with the warmth only a devoted grandfather could provide.
Jim's life was one of quiet dignity and modesty, and in keeping with his unassuming nature, no services are planned. He will be remembered as a man who lived with integrity, treated others with kindness, and found contentment in the love of his family and the melodies of his favorite songs.
