James Dilmon Carter

Funeral services for James "Jimmy" Dilmon Carter, 84 of Brentwood formerly of Cookeville will be Monday, November 22 at 1 PM from the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home with Bro. John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in West Cemetery in the Burgess Falls Community. The family will receive friends Monday from 11 AM until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Carter died Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Nashville VA Hospital. He was born June 10, 1937 in Putnam County to the late Simmons and Gladys Gentry Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Jan Marie Phillips Carter (died May 4, 2011), sisters Reba Pitts and Wilma Faye Burgess. He was a Air Force veteran in the Korean Conflict. Jimmy was a insurance agent with John Hancock Insurance Co. with over 20 years of service. He enjoyed square dancing and going to flea markets. Survivors include sons Richard ( Rose) Carter of Fairview and Thomas (Lisa) Carter of Brentwood, daughters Rhonda (Ron) Hendrix of Greeneville, TN. Denette (Charlie) Way of Monterey, brother Roy (Shirley) Carter of Cookeville, sister Linda Jared of Sparta, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Landreth, Joshua Landreth, Ben Carter, David Carter, Andy Ray, and Brian Atkins.
