Funeral services for James Peek Buck, Jr., 91, of Cookeville, Tennessee will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday, July 28, from 2 p.m. until service time at 4 p.m. James was born on July 21, 1928 to Pauline Wiggs Buck and James Peek Buck. He passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Wiggs Buck, father, James Peek Buck, stepmother, Bertie Brown Buck, and sister-in-law Jewell Brown Buck. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Irene Haney Buck, brother Col (Ret.) Robert Harold Buck (Louise), niece Angeli Buck Swallows (Paul), nephew Robert Brown Buck, niece Margaret Mayberry (Ronnie), nephew Johnny Lane (Lynn), nephew Bobby Lane (Sarah), great nephews and nieces Timothy Durm (Eleanor), Jake Durm (Krista), Emily Jones (Jeremy), Wes Swallows, Avery Westrich (Quinton), Lindsi Buck, Kelsi Buck, Lane Mayberry (Megan), Patrick Mayberry (Jenny), James Lane (Whitney), Rebecca Baggett, Michael Lane (Kim), Holly Freeman (Mike), David Lane (Kelsey), Austin Lane, several great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins Beth Wiggs Kuykendall and Jean Ketchum. James's love of cars and motorcycles was reflected in his career. He was co-owner of a Shell service station in the late 1940s to early 1950s located on the Cookeville square. He was drafted into the Army in 1954. Following his military service, he moved to Holly Springs, Mississippi where he managed a NAPA Auto Parts store. He moved back to Cookeville in 1967 and became manager of Horn's Honda Motorcycle Shop where he worked until his retirement. James was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church and the Backsliders Sunday School Class, Upper Cumberland Corvair Club, Cookeville Masonic Group, and Cookeville Lions Club. He enjoyed many close friendships and was a member of the Hardee's breakfast group for many years. Pallbearers will be Robert Brown Buck, Ronnie Mayberry, Johnny Lane, Bobby Lane, Timothy Durm, Jake Durm, Mark Horn, and Chris Dillon. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Backsliders Sunday School Class, Upper Cumberland Corvair Club, Cookeville Masonic Group, and Cookeville Lions Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cookeville First United Methodist Church. The family sends special thanks to his caregivers at Lifecare Center of Sparta and Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
