James “Bernest” Harris, age 83, of Florence, KY and Dayton, OH passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013. He was born on September 10, 1929 in Cookeville, TN to the late Jack & Rosa Harris. Bernest was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Darghty; sisters, Edith Johnson, Dorothy Patton and Helen Holder; and brother, Carl Buford Harris. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara Dimple Harris; sons, James David (Ramona) Harris, Larry Wayne (Karen) Harris and William Joseph (Trudy) Harris; daughter, Janet Lynn Harris; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson; sister, Lillian (Don) Bontrager; and many nieces and nephews. Bernest retired from Sears after 44 years of service. He was a loyal member of the Elks Lodge of Florence, KY where he enjoyed many friends. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved thoroughbred racing and Kentucky basketball. Bernest enjoyed life to the fullest and loved his family and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 10-11 am at Dyer Funeral Home (798 S. Willow Ave, Cookeville, TN 38501). The service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Shipley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernest’s memory to the Hospice of Dayton (324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420).
