Jackie Borden

August 12, 1940 — April 19, 2024

John Norman "Jackie" Borden Jr., a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on April 19, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, at the age of 83. Born on August 12, 1940, to John Norman Borden Sr. and Anna Dell Dillon Borden, Jackie was a life long Cookeville resident and respected businessman.

Jackie is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Fay Pinkston Borden, who has been his steadfast companion through life's many journeys. He also leaves behind his brother, David Borden (Marcia), and his adored nephews, Chris Fehlman (Mystie), Eric Fehlman (Lauren), and John David Borden (Manning). His legacy will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his great-nieces and nephews, Grace, EllaKate, Jessa, Conor, John MacArthur "Mac", and Margaret Francis "Margot", as well as his numerous cousins. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, John Norman Borden Sr. and Anna Dell Dillon Borden and in-laws Kenneth and Mildred Pinkston.

A proud US Marine Corps veteran, Jackie embodied the Corps' values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. He was the third-generation owner of Borden Jewelry and Gifts in Cookeville, a business started by his grandfather, Melvin H. Borden, in 1889. His dedication to his family's legacy was evident in the way he operated the store with integrity and a warm smile for every customer.

Jackie's commitment to his community was unwavering. As a charter member of the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce and a past president of the Tennessee Jewelers Association, he worked tirelessly to support local businesses and foster economic growth. He was also a member of the American Legion as well as a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the Cookeville Jaycees.

A man of faith, Jackie was a long-standing member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with guidance and strength. In addition to his devotion to faith and family, Jackie had a passion for sports, serving as a TSSAA football official for over 50 years. His love for the game was matched only by his love for scuba diving, hunting and fishing, where he found joy and relaxation.

Jackie will be remembered as an exceptional storyteller, outgoing and fun-loving, always ready with a tale to brighten someone's day. His personality was magnetic, drawing people to him with his friendly demeanor and kind heart. He lived life fully, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and a contagious smile.
