A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Saturday April 9, 2016 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner for Mr. John "Jack" Howard Wirt, 77 of Cookeville, who died Thursday morning April 7, 2016 in Signature Health Care Center of Putnam County following a gallant battle with Alzheimers. He was born December 22, 1938 in Cookeville to the late Ralph Howard and Margaret Jared Wirt. Jack was a life-long resident of Cookeville where he owned and operated Putnam Printing Company (a family business founded by his grandfather in 1927) until his retirement. Jack was a well-known businessman and civic leader. He was a member and a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club of Cookeville (Noonday). Jack was also a charter member and first president of Cookeville Corvette Club; and a life-long member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Kremza and brother, William "Bill" Wirt. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, W. Gary and Carolyn Wirt of Macomb, MI; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Monte Bambrough of Victor, NY; six grandchildren, Nate (Wendy), Crosby, Josh (Carrie), Casey, and Raven Bambrough, and Nicole Simmons; eight great grandchildren; and four sisters Margaret Swigart of Dayton, OH, Jesse Mae Watts of Cookeville, Kathye Drake of Leeds, AL, and Virginia Forrest Arlington, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers of Tennessee, 1459 Interstate Drive, Suite 211 or to the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter 2650 Gainesboro Grade both in Cookeville, TN 38501.
