Jack Parrott

d. October 30, 2015

A Celebration of Life for Jackie Paul (Jack) Parrott, age 75 of Rockwood and formerly of Monterey, will be held Tuesday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m. CST at Monterey First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Sand Springs Memorial Gardens. Sonny Gilpatrick and Johnny Bowman will officiate. Jack's family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. CST and Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. CST until service time at Monterey First Baptist Church. Jack died Friday afternoon October 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 27, 1940 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Paul and Nannie Pearl Robinson Parrott. Jack was a longtime, active member of Monterey First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday School teacher. He oversaw the planning and building of the Church's Family Life Center. Jack was also active in the community, having served on the Monterey Board of Aldermen. Recognizing the need for quality healthcare in Monterey, Jack helped lead the effort to establish Standing Stone Health Care Center and was chairman of the Board of Trustees for 13 years. He was also a founding partner in the establishment of Horner Funeral Home in 1976. Jack retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation as a Materials Inspector with 30 years of service. He was a graduate of Monterey High School Class of 1959. He loved being outdoors while gardening and doing yard work, but his favorite hobby included buying and selling real estate. He was first and foremost a family man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. His faith, wisdom, and calm demeanor made him a trusted mentor to many friends, colleagues and members of his church family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Parrott and a niece, Katie Parrott. Jack is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Coppinger Parrott (whom he married July 2, 1966 in Monterey); daughter and son-in-law, Paige and Scott Bandy; grandchildren, Ethan and Jacqueline Flowers and Sydney Bandy all of Kingston; five brothers and their wives, Jim (Sue) Parrott of Tracey City, TN, Ken (Wanda) Parrott, Joe (Betty) Parrott, Dan Parrott, and Bob (Sharon) Parrott all of Monterey; a special brother, Paul Gilpatrick of Monterey, and several nieces and nephews. Jack's family will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thompson Cancer Survival Center @ Methodist, 102 Vermont Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (931) 839-2266. You may share your thoughts and memories at www.hhhfunerals.com.
