JUNIOR B. "J.B." HARGIS Baxter-Funeral services for Junior B. "J.B." Hargis, 77 of Sparta, will be Saturday, September 29 at 2 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will be in Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. Bro. Herb Leftwich will officiate. Mr. Hargis died suddenly Monday, September 24, 2018 in St. Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta. He was born August 19, 1941 in Overton County to the late Thomas Buren and Bess Deck Hargis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Anita Askew, sisters Betty June Harris, Emma Jean Ogletree, Sue Moss and Leva May Hargis, brothers Ronnie Hargis and Earl V. Hargis. He was saved and baptized at Memorial Baptist Church in Livingston, TN. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans (SCVMC). He enjoyed motorcycles and fast cars. Survivors include wife of 35 years (Married October 8, 1982 in Belton, TX) Lois Lee Hargis of Sparta, daughters Fantasia Hargis, Paula Whitehead, Terrie Lynne Bohannon and Nicole Davis, sons Jerry Townsend and Jonathan Hargis, sisters Lois Cross, Debbie Jones and Vicky Birdwell, brothers Paul Hargis, Odis Hargis, Jack Hargis, Bill Hargis and Tom Hargis, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-granchildren, best friend like a brother Dan Murney. Family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 8 PM and Saturday after 7 AM at the funeral home. Active Pallbearers will be Roy Ogletree, Dale Sullivan, Dan Murney, J.D.
