Funeral services for Mrs. Edna ‘Irene' McBroom, 98 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Mike Dyer and Bro. Jeremiah Tatum will officiate. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. McBroom died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Bethesda Health Care Center. She was born February 10, 1919 in Overton Co. to the late Joseph Ewing and Donnie Smith Nation. She was a graduate of Cookeville Central High and during WWII served her country as a Rosie the Riveter. Irene and her late husband were longtime residents of Donelson, Tennessee. They were members of Donelson Church of Christ and faithfully served in the church benevolence program. They returned to Cookeville in 1992, placing their membership at Willow Ave. Church of Christ. ‘Good as gold', Irene was sweet, giving and ready to help anyone in need. She dearly loved her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. McBroom; son, Glenn McBroom; grandson, Steven McBroom; brother, James Gusta Nation and sister, Marie Vinson. She is survived by her sister, Ressie Pharris of Cookeville; grandson, Scott McBroom; Great-grandsons Jake, Caleb and Ethan; and nephews and nieces, Dale and Glenda Pharris, Eddie and Gayle Pharris, Pat and Melody Pharris, Larry and Debbie Vinson, Glenn and Vickie Stockton, Tom and Jeanette Piller and Tom and Joanne Longfellow.
