Inez Mcgee

Iris Inez McGee went to her eternal homecoming on April 2, 2019. Inez was born August 23, 1922 on the family farm in Jackson County. She lived on the farm for the remainder of her life helping care for the farm she grew up on as well as her parents as they aged. She will be remembered as an excellent seamstress, great cook and always having a bountiful, beautiful garden. Most of all Inez was a compassionate caregiver her entire life. Even in her last years on earth she was known for trying to take care of those around her. Inez retired from the Cookeville Shirt Factory where she worked for more than 25 years. After retirement she worked at all the local elections in Jackson County through her 90th birthday. Inez, known as Aunt Nez, by her nieces and nephews is survived by sister-in-law, Devonia McGee of Cookeville; nieces, Janet McGee of Knoxville, Dr. Kim McGee Wright (Allen) and Patricia Allen Meadows of Cookeville; Jenevie Horner Cox of College Grove, TN, nephew David Allen of Algood, special niece Chelsea Mercer of Greeneville, TN, and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cloves Garland McGee and Lola Phillips McGee of Cookeville, brother Quinton C. (Jack) McGee of Cookeville, sisters Mildred Horner of College Grove, TN, Elese Allen of Gainesboro, TN, and infant brother Donald Dale McGee. She was also preceded in death by nephews Quinton Harry Horner of Nashville, Dale Allen of Cookeville, and nieces Vickie Pippin and Linda Garrison of Gainesboro, TN. Inez was raised in the Spring Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Cookeville. Visitation will be April 6, 2019 from 10:00 until 11:30 at the chapel of Hooper, Huddleston, and Horner Funeral home. Graveside services will then follow at 12:00 at Smith Chapel Cemetery, led by Christian Smith of the Cookeville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The family would like to express their appreciation for the love shown to Aunt Nez during her last years by caregivers Lisa Dudney, Patsy Jenkins, and the nurses and staff of NHC in Cookeville.
