Hugh Birdwell

Funeral services for Hugh Myrl Birdwell, age 81 of Cookeville, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday February 11 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Ben Flatt, Bro. Andy Brewster, and Dr. Bruce McLarty will officiate. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery.

His family will receive friends Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.

Hugh passed away Tuesday February 7, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

He was born October 18, 1941 in Jackson County, TN to the late Doxie V. Birdwell and Lillie Ann Flatt Birdwell.

Hugh was the retired director with the Cookeville Public Works Department and formerly worked as an operations supervisor at Tennessee Tech University. He was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Jean Robbins Birdwell (they married August 10, 1963); son. Ronnie (Jennifer) Birdwell of Cookeville; brother, Bobby T. (Billie) Birdwell of Stillwater, OK; grandchildren. Jesse (Sarah) Birdwell and Caitlin (Nate) Dodson; and great grandchildren, Scarlett and Tripp Birdwell, and Boone Dodson.

Pallbearers will be John Ray Dorris, David Roberts, Kevin Birdwell, Odell Braswell, Tommy Flatt, Scottie Roberts, Sam Mainord, John Lee Downey.
