Funeral services for Mr. Hubert Haskell Buckner, age 80, of Cookeville, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Pryor officiating. Interment will follow in Sand Springs Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. and Thursday from 1 - 3 p.m. Mr. Buckner passed away Saturday afternoon, June 11, 2016 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born October 25, 1935 in Putnam County, TN to the late Jeff and Mattie Bumbalough Buckner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Buckner; four brothers, Coleman, Clarence, Talmadge, and Willard Buckner; six sisters, Flora Cates, Ruth Wilson, Margie Dennis, Mary Lou Ryerson, Ethel Trisdale, and Edna Buckner; brother-in-law, David Farley; mother and father-in-law, Cludie and Alline Farley. Hubert was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and loved his church family dearly. Even in later years as his health declined, his desire to be around his church family never wavered. He worked as a mechanic with Ryder Systems Inc. prior to retirement, and was a member of Cookeville Masonic Lodge 266 F&AM for over 44 years. Hubert enjoyed being with friends. You could find him drinking coffee with friends at Hardee's and enjoying activities at Cookeville Senior Citizens Center. His family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Dean Farley Buckner (whom he married December 31, 1957 in Cookeville); two sons and daughter-in-law, Randy and Wendy Buckner of Sandy, Utah, Rex Buckner of Cookeville (co-founder of Mustard Seed Ranch); special daughter, Julianne Flatt Buckner of Cookeville (co-founder of Mustard Seed Ranch); five grandchildren, Ellie, Reed, Liza, Elizabeth, and Brendan Buckner; two step-grandchildren, Corbin and Nick Brown; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ollie Norrod of Monterey, Jessie and Bro. Billy Tummond of Eagle Lake, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Mamie Buckner of Monterey; sister-in-law, Barbara Farley of Fort Worth, TX; special friends, CW and Wanda Belew; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Jane Ann Gotcher and staff for the wonderful care Hubert received. Jim Madewell, Clester Buckner, Dan Buckner, Ronnie Simpson, Bro. Richard Buckner, and Billy Tummond Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mustard Seed Ranch, 4725 Kuykendall Rd, Cookeville, TN 38501.
