Hilda Young

Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda Pope Young, 95 of Cookeville and formerly of Montgomery, AL, will be conducted Sunday September 22nd at 3pm in the White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home in Montgomery. Burial will follow in Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Young's son-in-law, Roger Colglazier, will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2pm until service time at the funeral home. In addition, a Memorial Service for Mrs. Young will be held Friday September 27th at 4pm at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Cookeville. Mrs. Young died Tuesday September 17, 2013, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Mrs.Young was born March 16, 1918, in Abbeville, AL, to the late Angus Dowling (A.D.) and Byrdie Hawkins Pope. A lifetime teacher, Mrs. Young was a graduate of Auburn University and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She taught English for three years in Louisville High in Barbour Co and for 27 years in Montgomery Co. She served as President of Montgomery Co. Teachers Association and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Delta Kappa, teacher organizations. She was also a member of the Capital City Women's Republican Association. She was a member and Ladies Bible Class teacher of the Vaughn Park Church of Christ and a member at Dalraida Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, David E. Young, Sr.; two brothers, Thomas C. Pope and William H. Pope. Mrs. Young is survived by a son, David E. Young Jr. (Donna) of Sri Lanka; daughter, Brenda Colglazier (Roger) of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Abigail Mittlesteadt (Wes), David Colglazier, Aaorn Young and Shannon Ceballos (Rob); three great-grandchildren; and by a brother, Angus Pope Jr. of Abbeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to acknowledge all of Mrs. Young's special friends, the residents and caregivers at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Cookeville, where she lived since moving to Cookeville six years ago.
