Hessie Hicks

Funeral service for Hessie Pearl Hicks, 98, of Algood will be held Friday, August 17 at 11 a.m. in the Algood Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with interment to follow in Algood City Cemetery. Rev. Patricia L. Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Hicks died Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at her home. She was born February 14, 1914 in Overton County, TN to the late Roy Lee and Ora Ulysses Davis Smith. Mrs. Hicks was a long time member of Algood First United Methodist Church. She was retired from Algood Drug Store. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Hicks, son, Jamie Lee Hicks, son-in-law, George Ledbetter, two great grandchildren, Tera and Michael Ledbetter, two sisters, Rosanell Smith and Ruby Stuteville and two brothers, Elis Smith and A.R. Smith. Mrs. Hicks is survived by a daughter, Brenda Ledbetter of Algood (who died suddenly Tuesday evening, August 14, 2012); three grandchildren, Glen (Michelle) Ledbetter, Tracy (Kenny) Slaughter and Amy Hicks and six great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mayme Hicks of Cookeville; sister, Emogene Ledbetter of Algood and a sister-in-law, Vera Mae Smith of Cookeville. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
