Private family graveside services for Mrs. Helen Vandiver Williams, age 88 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday July 11th at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Williams died Thursday June 25, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born April 26, 1932 in Maury County, Tennessee to the late Walter and Carleen Lovell Vandiver. She was a graduate of Tennessee Tech University where she earned a bachelor's degree in home economics. Helen was employed in the Putnam County schools system and taught English and Home Economics. She was a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church for over 50 years and also worked there for more than 20 of those years as Financial Secretary. She loved her church family dearly. Helen sang in the choir for many years and was involved in various teaching, mission and leadership roles at the church. Helen had a feisty, loving, nurturing and caring nature. She was a people person and a motherly figure to many. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and many of the children of First Baptist. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harold Edward Williams, and by her older brother, Ray Vandiver. She is survived by daughter, Kim Williams of McMinnville; son, Blair Williams and wife Debbie of Erlanger, Kentucky; grandsons, Eric Dykes and Gavin Williams, also of Erlanger; her honorary daughter, Linda Nash of Cookeville; and nine nieces and nephews. Helen's family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and residents of Heritage Pointe Senior Living for the loving care and friendship given to her.
