Harry Stuber

d. August 20, 2017

Harry Leslie Stuber, MD, of Cookeville, passed away Aug. 20, 2017. He was born May 11, 1944, in Queens, NY. He spent his formative summers in Sag Harbor where he developed a love of nature and water. Harry was a Renaissance man — a physician, a watercolor artist, a fisherman, a boater, a writer, a woodworker and chef. He was known for his irreverent sense of humor and his thirst for knowledge, always seeking medical answers in and outside his field. In his more than 40 years of practice, he cared for three generations of families and delivered more than 3,000 babies. He had a knack for taking complicated science and making it easy for his patients and his students to understand. He attended Hamilton College in New York and earned a master's degree in molecular biology at George Washington University. He became fluent in Spanish and studied medicine for two years in Guadalajara before transferring to the University of Texas-San Antonio. He completed his residency at Case Western in Cleveland. When he looked for a place to call home, he searched for a community that offered nature, water, a university and a good quality of life and he chose Cookeville. He and his wife, Eileen, together with a group of dedicated friends founded the Upper Cumberland Komen affiliate, and he was a critical part of the board of directors, educating everyone. He is survived by his wife, Eileen Stuber; son, Benjamin Stuber; sister, Louise Conway, and husband, Dan; niece, Sandra Wilson; great nephew, Tyler ; nephew, Conrad Davis; great-niece and nephew, Grace and Harrison; and stepson, Sean McCollough and wife, Steph Gunnoe, and their children, Forest, Julia and Willa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Remote Area Medical Fund at: www.CookevilleRegional Charity.org/RAM or mail to: CRMC Foundation, 1 Medical Center Blvd., Cookeville Tn 38501.
