COOKEVILLE - Graveside memorial services for Harriett Boatman Oliver, 97, of Dallas, TX, formerly of Baxter will be Sunday, October 16 at 2:30 PM at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. John Pippin, minister at Baxter Church of Christ will officiate. Family will receive friends after the service. Mrs. Oliver passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at an elder care home in Dallas. She was born December 15, 1918 in Cookeville to the late Byrd and Mary Sliger Boatman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Oliver, sister Rosa Sutton and brothers Robert, Horace and Lecil Boatman. She lived in the Cookeville/Baxter area most of her life. During WWII, she was a bookkeeper and a volunteer making bandages for the soldiers. Most of her life she was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Baxter Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School classes and sang at funerals. She enjoyed flower gardening, making jelly, canning and sewed many unique quilts during her lifetime. After her husband, Vernon Oliver's death and 60 years of marriage, she moved to Dallas to be near her daughter, Betty Oliver. She lived in an assisted living center where she learned to paint flowers and birds. Her nickname was "The Painter" and many friends and staff were the recipients of her paintings. She became an Ambassador to new residents and loved helping those in need. She enjoyed the many other activities as well especially when "Elvis" sang. Survivors include daughter Betty Oliver of Dallas, her brother Howard Boatman of Nashville, sister Pearlie Bice of Rochester Hills, MI, and many nieces and nephews, including Maudeen Sparks of Cookeville.
